How Can a 'Fellow Black American' Oppose Obama?

Who loves ya???

So my buddy down the street just dropped this off for me! I could cry happy tears because it's just the right thing at the right time! I LOVE YOU ROBYN!!!!

Book 'o the week

Borrowed this from Karen and since I'm not so good at returning books, I thought I would go ahead and put at the top of my 'to read' list so I could get it back to her in a timely manner. She really liked it, but I'm just not feeling huge love for it. There's just something about an author writing about an author trying to write a book that seems... pretentious to me. I'm only on page like 150 so maybe I'll find more love for the story towards the end, but right now I'm not feeling any attachment at all to the characters.
6-25-08: finished this last night, I wish the whole book was as interesting as the ending!

OWNED!!!

So my 100 year old office chair just threw my ass in the floor for the last time. Something has always been wrong with her, partly due to her age, and partly due to the fact that she used to belong around the board table. I don't know what happens in the board room, but those chairs, while they are a much higher quality and way more expensive than your average office chair, they seem to wear out way faster. I knew after I oiled my chair the last time and it stopped squeaking completely that something was wrong. Also, I couldn't sit completely straight, my hips were always skewed off to the right or left and this forced my back kinda out of whack. So a short while ago, while tapping out an email to Karen, I leaned back just a little and my chair leaned back a whole lot and with a lot of screaming and cursing, there I was in the floor for all to laugh at. I laughed at myself pretty hard too.

Must Have Monday!

Cheap paper towels suck! I have been trying to reduce my paper towel usage and this is a great way to do it. These things can be reused and reused. I've left them in my pocket and let it go through a wash/dry cycle... they come out brandy new! They aren't significantly more expensive than the cheapy ones and they last so much longer! It only takes one to clean up a mess rather than half a roll.

Funk

I am in a total funk today. I don't know what my problem is... So here's some cute pictures that I've snatched at one time or another from the AP or wherever to brighten everyones day.

Apparently I feel political on Thursdays...

I haven't decided for sure who I'm voting for yet, let me make that clear off the bat. I have an idea in mind, but I guess I'm waiting for someone better than the options I've been offered at this point.

However, I am really sick of all the 'pro-black' propaganda that Obama is throwing around. I think it's wonderful and liberating that a black candidate has made it to the nomination point of the presidency, however, I feel like much of it is blantant disrespect. The fact is: Obama is just as much white as he is black, his mom was white. All you ever hear him talk about is his black father and their african heritage. That's wonderful except I would have trouble having respect for a 'father' who abandoned me. He was raised by his white grandparents, but you never hear anything about that. No respect for the people who raised him after his dad failed to step up to the plate.

Book o' the week

Started this book Sunday and LOVE it! I think I might like A Thousand Splendid Suns a little more, but only because it didn't give me that sick feeling in my stomach as much as this one. I guess a lot of it is because I feel so attached to the character, I'm thinking: Oh God, don't do that! And I just think it so hard, it makes my stomach hurt. There aren't too many authors that can affect me physically, but this is one of them. Awesome, awesome book!

6-18-08 - Finished this last night and cried my eyes out!!!

Must Have Monday

I'm sitting in my office trying to decide what moves me today. I take a big long gulp of water and just can't come up with what I would love to share with my friends today. Duh! My Sigg water bottle. Love love love this thing. We throw away a ridiculous amount of plastic water bottles every day, and you wouldn't throw them away if they looked this cool! My Sigg is aluminum but never tastes like metal. You also never have to worry about the cancer-causing things that leach out of plastic into your water, plastic bottles are only meant to be used once! Thank you Sigg for making my Monday!

Look Closely....

Do you see Satan in this curtain???
Well I do! It just took me like an hour to put this bitch up and I am sweating like a man and my shoulder is sore. It took me like 2 days just to figure out how the curtain fit into the bracket! Lets face it, I've hung curtains before. I have a friggin degree for shit's sake! I killed the battery on my little girly drill just hanging up this one, now I have to wait for an hour for it to charge just to hang the 2 curtains in the bedrom. Not cool at all!

Sorry, this is the political post...

I just read such an amazing article I had to blog about it. I will be the first to say that I think GW has made some very bad decisions since he's been in office, however, he has based those decisions on bad intelligence. We do it every day, we base our decisions on what we know and what we hear to be true. Anyway, Ann Coulter was talking in this article about how we felt on Sept 12, 2001. How many of us really thought that we could go 7 years without another terrorist attack on our soil? That in itself is pretty impressive.

Book o' the week...

I've had this book recommended to me several times, but I just kept putting it off. Honestly, it just seemed like a dumb mystery that I just wouldn't get into. Well, I didn't realize it was written from the point of view of an autistic kid. A very funny autistic kid. It has really given me some insight as to how they think, they just can't read someones facial expressions and get anything out of that. He was saying how raising one eyebrow could mean: That's a stupid thought, or I want to make sex with you. It's all just very dry humor which I can totally get down with. Oh, and since he's obsessed with prime numbers, the chapters are only using prime numbers so even though I just started last night, I'm already on chapter like 37 or something.

2 fer...

Here is my second must have Monday. These things are crack!!! Imagine a twinkie, but made with soft nilla wafer. OMG!

Must have Monday!

This is one of those things I feel like it has made my life so much better! If you have pets, and you have areas of your floor that aren't carpeted, you must get a Swiffer Vac. I love all things Swiffer, but this one gets the most use in my house. The price may seem steep at $40 but it is well well worth it!

Twister?

I added some new pictures from a camera which doesn't normally get used as a phone. I was at the house earlier and the county was out there taking pictures because they believe the damage was caused by a tornado. The national weather service was supposed to come out later today to determine if it was in fact a tornado. Guarantee that they will say it was wind shears. I wasn't there, but I haven't seen wind alone cause this kind of damage before. One piece of siding will have to be replaced (snap on snap off) but with all the limbs flying, no windows were broke, nobody was hurt, that's the most important part. The insurance companies are certainly busy today though! My friendly neighborhood agent said he had filed about 20 claims today at 4:30 pm. A tent (which wasn't up) damaged about 20 cars at Preston Ford. A near full silo was moved several inches off of its foundation at Nagel's. Unbelievable stuff!!! These pictures were all taken at my house in Preston.

I put all the pictures that I took today on photobucket.

Karen! This is for you!

We must have these! I think you can get different little punches from Michaels and a shadowbox probably from the dollar store and how precious is this!!! The stuff is right from a magazine! I'm obsessed with that link that you posted.

Here's more info on this artsy fartsy project.

We might need these too.

How I feel

This is totally how I feel today, but it's just not happening.

Since I missed her last time

And she's sitting right here, here's a random picture of my old lady Gypsy. She wants a piece of the camera strap. I got Gypsy second semeseter freshman year of college, which would've been the beginning of 98 and she had a flea collar that she had stepped through and had become embedded under her front leg and behind her neck. I wound up shaving her at the time, what a fun task that was! So we've been buddies for 10 years now and she was probably 1 yr old when I got her.

I can't believe how clean....

My living room looks without those crusty old wooden windows! The paint was peeling off of them, you had to fight to get them up and down, it was just a disaster... New windows... ahhhh... They went in quite nicely after our disaster yesterday. Yup, full on monsoon right as he got the windows out. Luckily Danny (horn blower from down the street) saw us outside and came scurrying down to help us cover up the windows with plastic and get all the tools inside. Here's the finished product:

Yes, my neighbors across the street do park in their front yard, thanks for noticing.
